Cybersecurity firm rebuilds companies to hack during training

With a mobile server rack and a realistic copy of a real business, Rootsec travels to organisations to deliver hands-on cybersecurity training.

“At birthdays people still react with ‘wow’ when I explain what I do,” says founder Emil Pilecki, smiling. He specialises in uncovering digital vulnerabilities inside organisations and wants to show what really happens during a hack.

For their training, Rootsec builds a complete company replica — including systems, accounts and networks — and simulates an attack from start to finish. “We show what happens behind the scenes,” Pilecki explains. “We open the door and walk through, step by step, how hackers operate. Then we teach participants how to defend themselves.”

Rootsec delivers training for governments, universities and law-enforcement agencies, and stands out for its realistic, hands-on approach. In Studio Flevoland, Pilecki talks about this innovative way of training — where technology, experience and awareness come together.
